Character Creation
Each character is to have its own account, attached to a master account (the author/OoC account). All master accounts/OoC accounts should be automatically registered; if you have any issues with your master account not automatically being registered, please don't hesitate to reach out to an Admin or Moderator in the #ask-staff channel of our Discord!
Creating a Character
When it comes to character creation on site, we pride ourselves on giving authors the ability to write as much or as little as they want in their character’s profiles. Authors can write in paragraphs, sentences, bullet points, whatever their chosen style may be. While there is endless freedom, Myr is full of rich lore which means assimilating your character into the world is extremely vital.
Creating a character is one of the most vital steps in shaping an immersive and engaging experience. This section outlines the key elements and requirements to consider when crafting a well-rounded character.
In order to have your character accepted, you must have the following fields filled out.
Full Name - (no last name required - if they only have a first name, that is okay.)
Gender
Pronouns
Age
Race
Height (use feet/inches or meters)
Conditions (see below on Myr's list of Conditions and their explanations)
Alignment, Occupation, Class, and Patron Deity (feel free to switch these as needed - no character update required.)
Appearance (even if you have a reference photo for your character, please still include a written description.)
Personality
History
Trigger Warnings (if your character’s history contains anything that may be triggering to other members, please list them here.)
Magic (describe your character’s magic here if applicable.)
Acknowledgements (all photos used are to be credited, including AI generated imagery)
Character Names
Characters with the same names are allowed, but there should be a distinction of different ways of spelling their said name. Surnames may only be duplicated in the case of familial relations or marriage. We recommend searching the Census before registering your character’s account, just in case there are numerous iterations of the same name.
Appearance
This section is to explain what your character looks like. While some characters may have reference images provided, it is nice to have text to accompany any visual aspects, as well as clarify anything that people may overlook. Provide a clear picture of your character’s appearance. This includes things like:
Gender and Age: The character’s age and how they present themselves.
Physical Traits: Height, build, skin tone, hair color, eye color, and any distinguishing features (scars, tattoos, birthmarks).
Clothing: Typical attire and notable items or accessories that reflect their profession, status, or personality.
A detailed description helps others envision your character and makes them more memorable.
Personality
Characters should feel dynamic and complex, much like real people. Developing personality traits helps flesh out their behaviors and how they interact with others. Consider the following:
Positive Traits: What are your character’s strengths? Are they kind, courageous, or intelligent?
Negative Traits: Every character should have flaws. Perhaps they are arrogant, overly cautious, or quick to anger.
Quirks and Habits: Adding small quirks (e.g., a nervous tick, an odd obsession) brings uniqueness and believability.
Moral Alignment: What are their values? Are they driven by justice, self-interest, or something else?
History
Every character starts with an idea. This concept forms the core identity, personality, and role of your character. A backstory helps explain who they are, where they come from, and what experiences shaped them. Key components include:
Origin: Where was the character born? Are they native to Myr or a foreigner? What is their cultural or ethnic background?
Motivations and Goals: What drives your character? What are their long-term ambitions and short-term desires?
Key Life Events: Highlight significant experiences, such as traumatic events, major successes, or turning points that influenced the character's development.
The backstory doesn’t need to be overly detailed, but it should provide enough context to explain the character’s behavior, skills, and outlook.
Conditions
Conditions are unfortunate afflictions that have befallen your character. They are usually but not always categorized as something
traumatic,
unlucky, or
unfortunate.
