Companions
Within the world of Myr lives a myriad of beasts both common and fantastical. Characters are able persuade valiant and noble beasts to stand at their side, providing companionship, ease of transportation, and even assistance on the battlefield. While not necessarily
pets, Companions can be classified in two different categories:
Common and
Fantasy. Companions are
not to be confused with pets.
Companions form a mental connection with their humanoid counterparts. They cannot communicate with other Companions, but they can perform simple speech by telepathic means to their bonded individuals.
Common Companions
Common Companions can be categorized as anything found in the 'real world' that lacks fantasy elements. Creatures such as dogs, cats, horses, etc. are considered as 'Common Companions.
Common Companions do not require a quest to receive one unless the player would like to. If they choose to quest for their Common Companion, there is a 500 wordcount minimum.
Characters can redeem a Common Companion immediately; there is no post count requirement.
Companion information must be filled out in the Character's profile and then posted in the Character Updates board under Member Services.
Fantasy Companions
Fantasy Companions are categorized by anything mythical in nature. Unicorns, dragons of any kind, phoenixes, or any other mythological creature. While these types of creatures are naturally found in the wild within the world of Myr, they are known to be dangerous, free-spirited, and are prone to territorial aggression. As such, they are not considered 'common'.
Fantasy Companions do require a quest to obtain.
Characters can petition the Pantheon or a Sovereign for a quest in obtaining a Fantasy Companion.
The Character must have at least 10 posts to Quest for a Fantasy Companion.
Fantasy Companions can be no larger than 9 ft tall at the shoulder.
A single Character cannot have more than 3 Fantasy Companions at one time.
Quests to obtain a Fantasy Companion requirements are: a minimum of 500 words, and must explain how the character(s) find and obtain said Fantasy Companion. This can be achieved by completing the task that a Sovereign or Deity has tasked the Character with.
Upon completion of the Quest, be sure to tag Staff within the completed thread. Make sure the Companion tab in your Character's profile is filled out, and then post a Companion Update request in Character Updates board under Member Services.
Please Note - Sometimes Common and Fantasy Companions can be given out as rewards for Random Events or Site-Wide Plots. These do NOT need to be Quested for, and can be redeemed by filling out the required information in a Character Profile and then posting to the Character Updates.
Pets
As the people of Myr begin to settle back into a semblance of normalcy, many seek out companionship. Pets are common creatures found within Myr that are easy to obtain and tend to. Examples are: cats, birds, snakes, dogs, horses, or any other common animal.
Pets do not require a quest to obtain.
Pets do not need to be filled out on Character profiles, but if you would like to have them on there then feel free to do so!
Unlike Companions, pets do not create telepathic connections with Characters.
Companion Magic
Companions can gain magic through Questing or Rewards, guided by their bonded Character. Common Companions and Fantasy Companions are capable of getting magic.
Companions are limited to two types of magic - Primary & Secondary. These do not need to align with their bonded character’s magic.
Companion Magic progresses alongside their bonded character's growth. (Ex. Tom has Novice magic, his companion will also have Novice magic. When Tom’s advances to Expert magic, his companion's magic will also reach Expert.)
Companion Magic is capped at Expert level, even if the bonded character achieves Master or Transcendent.
The rules regarding prohibited magics in Myr also apply to Companion Magic. Refer to Myr’s Magic Guidelines for details.
Acquiring Companion Magic
Companion Magic is unlocked upon completing a Quest. Each type of Companion Magic requires a separate Quest, with a maximum of three Quests per desired magic level.
Companion Magic Quests can be requested from the Gods or an active Sovereign.
Quests must have a minimum of 500 words.
If you have a Fantasy Companion who innately already has magic (ex. dragons breathing fire), then you will not be required to quest for that magic. That will, however, count as one magic.
After completing a Quest, update the Companion section of your character’s profile with the attained Magic and a short description of how it works before submitting a Quest Completion Form.
*Reminder that Pets do not qualify for Companion Magic
