The World of Myr

The World of Myr is vast in its geography. From rolling fields of lush grasslands, rocky, snow-capped mountains, canyons of crimson-colored sandstone, and deep, verdant forests full of mystery, the land is ripe with promise and potential. Much of the continent remains unexplored after the reign of destruction that the Sundering wrought, yet that has yet to stop the citizens of Myr from attempting to reclaim their homes - or create all new ones.

The Four Kingdoms of Myr

Before Malakar's rise to dark, nefarious power and before the Sundering shattered the land and the invasion of the Nether cast the world into ruin, the land of Myr was prosperous and innovative. It was connected by its four Kingdoms - Varenthis, Mythrandir, Evalyr, and Feyrithil - and while the four Kingdoms did not always agree, they remained determined to uphold some kind of peace between them.

Varenthis: The Heart of Myr

Nestled within the fertile expanse of Myr’s central valley and grasslands, Varenthis was once a sprawling metropolis where the world of trade and the strength of military power converged. Its imposing walls, adorned with the banners of victory and the sigils of its ruling houses, stand as a testament to centuries of resilience, power, and ambition.

Architecture and Layout

The city is divided into distinct districts, each reflecting its dual focus on commerce and military strength.

The Iron Quarter: Located near the eastern gates, this district houses massive foundries and armories, as well as providing many simple homes for the soldiers of Varenthis.
The Grand Bazaar: To the west lies a sprawling marketplace where goods from all corners of Myr and beyond are exchanged. Brightly colored tents and stalls overflow with exotic wares, from spices and silks to rare gems and enchanted trinkets. Many of these wares are carted in from trader ships sailing from the Tideglass Bay.
The Brass Keep: At the city’s center rises a fortress-like palace, its brass-plated spires gleaming in the sunlight. This is the seat of Varenthis’s ruler and the command hub for its renowned military.
The Green Stride: A carefully preserved belt of greenery that winds through the city, serving as both a public park and a reminder of the valley’s natural bounty. Many of Varenthis' homes and sprawling estates are spread out among the Green Stride.

Military Dominance

Varenthis’ military might is legendary, with legions of well-trained soldiers and an array of fearsome siege engines. The city’s location gives it a strategic advantage, with watchtowers along the valley’s edge ensuring no movement goes unnoticed. Its elite cavalry, known as the Steel Wind, is renowned for its speed and precision, while the Crimson Phalanx guards the city with unyielding discipline.

Trade and Prosperity

Being located within the heart of Myr, Varenthis thrives as a hub for commerce. Caravans laden with goods traverse its cobbled streets, setting up stalls within the Grand Bazaar to sell their wares. Shipments arrive almost daily from the docks located at the Tideglass Bay, providing Varenthis with many exotic goods for sale and trade. The city’s wealth funds both its military campaigns and its ancient but pristinely maintained architecture, creating a delicate balance between martial strength and mercantile prosperity.

Cultural Melting Pot

Varenthis is a city of contrasts, where grizzled generals share streets with silver-tongued merchants and travelers from distant lands mingle in bustling taverns. The central square, Victory Plaza, hosts grand festivals, parades, and markets, celebrating the city's unity and strength.

The People of Varenthis

The citizens of Varenthis are a proud and pragmatic people, shaped by their city’s dual heritage. Soldiers march alongside traders, and artisans craft both weapons and wonders. Loyalty to Varenthis runs deep, with its people viewing their city as the backbone of Myr—a symbol of power, prosperity, and unyielding resolve.

Mythrandir: The Veiled City of the Arcane

Shrouded beneath the emerald canopy of the western forests of Myr lies Mythrandir, a city where the ancient and arcane intertwine. Known as the cradle of magical knowledge, Mythrandir is a place of unparalleled beauty and mystery, a sanctuary for those who seek wisdom beyond the mundane.

Architecture and Layout

Mythrandir is a seamless blend of nature and magic, its buildings crafted to harmonize with the surrounding forest.

The Skybound Spires: Towering structures made of enchanted crystal and living wood rise high above the treetops. These spires are home to grand libraries, alchemical labs, and observatories that study the celestial mysteries.
The Verdant Halls: A series of sprawling halls and courtyards nestled at ground level, woven into the roots of ancient trees. The halls glow faintly at night with magical light, providing spaces for study, debate, and meditation.
The Glimmered Paths: Narrow, winding paths of bioluminescent moss thread through the city, guiding visitors through its labyrinthine streets. Along these streets is where you will find most of the homes of Mythrandir. Limited by the space in which they could build outward, the inhabitants of this forested city instead built their homes upward as tall towers.
The Aetherium Crystal: At the city’s heart stands a massive, floating crystal encased in protective wards. Known as the Aetherium, it serves as both a font of arcane energy and a symbol of Mythrandir’s magical legacy.

The Arcane Legacy

Once ruled by the Council of Mythrandir, an elite assembly of sorcerers and arcane practicioners, the city retains much of its former grandeur despite the Council’s dissolution. The Council itself oversaw the rules and regulations of the city of Mythrandir. They were revered among the populace as noble, exalted individuals and their word passed as law.

Evalyr: The Jewel of the Coast

Nestled along the northwestern coasts of Myr, Evalyr shines as a kingdom of boundless creativity and harmony. A realm where inspiration flows as freely as the ocean’s breeze, Evalyr invites travelers to bask in its sunlit splendor and explore its vibrant culture. From its Mediterranean-inspired cities to its thriving artisan communities, Evalyr is a haven for those seeking beauty, freedom, and the art of living.

Architecture and Layout

Crafted from gleaming white stone and adorned with colorful mosaics, their walls tell the stories of Evalyr’s past and present. Statues of legendary artists and heroes stand sentinel over bustling plazas, while mural-covered towers reach toward the azure sky. These cities serve as cultural hubs, alive with festivals, performances, and marketplaces that attract visitors from across Myr.
The Azure Colonnade: Stretching along Evalyr’s western coastline, this series of stone-pillared walkways and amphitheaters offers breathtaking views of the sea. Musicians and performers take to the stages, their art accompanied by the rhythmic symphony of crashing waves. At twilight, lanterns cast a golden glow across the colonnades, creating a magical setting for artistic gatherings and romantic strolls.
The Rainbow Village: Amid olive groves and vineyards, Evalyr’s villages are as much works of art as they are homes. Painted in vivid hues and adorned with intricate carvings, each village reflects the unique spirit of its inhabitants. These communities thrive on collaboration, with local artisans, farmers, and winemakers working together to create a life steeped in beauty and abundance.

Natural Wonders

The Velanna Glades: A radiant expanse of tropical forest, the Velanna Glades are a treasure trove of natural beauty and hidden magic. Sunlight filters through a canopy of emerald leaves, casting kaleidoscopic patterns on the ground. At night, bioluminescent plants transform the glades into a glowing wonderland of blues, purples, and golds. The glades are home to herbalists, alchemists, and artists who draw inspiration from its vibrant flora and fauna to craft dyes, perfumes, and potions.
The Elarion Crags: To the north, the jagged peaks of the Elarion Crags rise like a crown over Evalyr. Rich with veins of precious metals and gemstones, these mountains are both a source of wealth and artistic inspiration. Blacksmiths, jewelers, and metalworkers carve their workshops into the cliffs, creating treasures of unparalleled beauty. When sunlight strikes the mineral-laden cliffs, the crags shimmer with radiant hues, earning them their legendary reputation.

Cultural Highlights

The Gilded Markets: The beating heart of Evalyr’s trade and culture, the Gilded Markets are a sensory feast. Stalls overflow with exotic spices, shimmering silks, and finely crafted wares. Performers weave through the crowds, their costumes dazzling in the sunlight, while storytellers and musicians captivate audiences with tales and melodies. The markets are not just places of commerce but vibrant centers of cultural exchange where ideas flow as freely as coin.
The Festival of Eternal Colors: Every year, Evalyr bursts into even greater life during the Festival of Eternal Colors. Streets transform into living canvases, with citizens and visitors dressed in vivid costumes and adorned with painted masks. Parades of fantastical floats wind through the cities, and fireworks light up the skies above the Prism Peaks. The festival culminates in a grand celebration at the Azure Colonnade, where artists unveil their finest works to the applause of thousands.

Legacy of Craftsmanship

Evalyr’s artisans are renowned across Myr for their unparalleled skill and creativity. From the jewelers of the Elarion Crags to the weavers and potters of the Velanna Glades, every creation is a testament to the kingdom’s devotion to beauty and ingenuity. Evalyr’s forges echo with the rhythmic clang of hammers, shaping raw metals into breathtaking works of art. Its workshops and studios hum with the energy of innovation, producing masterpieces that inspire and endure.

The people of Evalyr are deeply rooted in creativity, collaboration, and a profound respect for beauty. Renowned artisans, performers, and traders shape their identity, blending innovation with tradition in every facet of their lives. In the spire cities, villagers carve stories into mosaic walls, while blacksmiths and jewelers from the Elarion Crags transform precious resources into treasures. Farmers, herbalists, and alchemists in the Velanna Glades contribute to the cultural tapestry with unique crafts like perfumes, dyes, and potions. It is a land where life itself is the greatest art.

Feyrithil: The Tranquil Tundra of Harmony

In the northeastern reaches of Myr, where the sun hangs low and the air carries a perpetual chill, lies Feyrithil, a Kingdom of serene beauty and quiet strength. With rolling hills of pristine snow, frozen lakes that shimmer beneath pale skies, and forests of evergreens that whisper ancient secrets, Feyrithil is a land shaped by the steady rhythms of nature and the resolve of its people. Here, strength is not measured in conquest but in the enduring harmony between the land and its inhabitants.

Architecture and Layout

The Frostbound Bastions: The strongholds of the Triumvirate Knights are nestled within secluded groves and valleys. These fortresses blend seamlessly with their surroundings, their walls constructed from thatch, clay, and a unique stone that glows faintly in the moonlight. Each bastion serves as both a sanctuary and a beacon.
The Hearthborn Villages: Scattered across the snowbound plains are clusters of cozy villages, each built around a central hearth that symbolizes unity and warmth. Homes are crafted from timber and stone, with roofs designed to shed heavy snow. These villages are hubs of community life, where traditions are passed down through stories, music, and festivals celebrating the turning of the seasons.
The Crystal Paths: A network of shimmering pathways carved into the ice connects the kingdom. Lined with luminescent stones, these paths glow softly in the dim winter light, guiding travelers safely through the tundra. The Crystal Paths are more than practical routes; they are arteries of culture and commerce, linking Feyrithil’s people together in unity.
The Winterspire Monastery: At the kingdom’s heart stands the Winterspire, a towering monastery luminous stone. It is both a spiritual and cultural center, housing ancient texts, sacred relics, and spaces for meditation and study. The monks of Winterspire are keepers of Feyrithil’s wisdom, offering guidance to those who seek it beneath its vaulted halls.

Natural Wonders

Frost-Touched Moor: Stretching to the west, the moorlands are a haunting expanse of frosted grasses and spectral fog. Ghostly white flowers bloom across the icy fields, their delicate petals edged with frost, as if the land itself mourns some forgotten tragedy. Stone cairns dot the landscape, each one a silent sentinel guarding ancient secrets. The moors are deceptively silent, broken only by the mournful calls of crows or the low growl of unseen predators lurking just beyond the mist.
Crimson Mire: The Crimson Mire is a cold, desolate swamp in the northern tundra of Feyrithil. Its frozen waters are tinged red, thanks to the crimson-tinted plants that bloom fleetingly during the brief summer. The land is marshy and treacherous, with patches of ice-covered pools and gnarled, frost-coated trees standing like silent sentinels. The fog is thick and perpetual, casting an eerie crimson glow over the mire. Strange lights flicker in the distance, and few creatures brave the mire’s depths, though hardy beasts like frost elk and wolves can be found on its edges. The mire is a place of quiet mystery, where the cold, ancient magic of Feyrithil lingers in the frozen earth.

The Guardians of Harmony

At the heart of Feyrithil’s ethos are the Triumvirate Knights, protectors of both the land and its people. Trained in the arts of combat and diplomacy, the knights are as much stewards as they are warriors, their code emphasizing balance and the preservation of peace. Their strongholds are centers of learning and training, where aspirants are taught to embody the kingdom’s ideals of harmony, strength, and chivalry.

A Legacy of Serenity

Feyrithil’s people live in attunement with the land, their lives marked by a reverence for its quiet majesty. From the frost-coated moors to the gleaming halls of the Winterspire, every facet of the kingdom reflects a deep respect for the natural world. Whether sharing tales around a hearthfire, traversing the Crystal Paths, or watching the auroras dance across the night sky, those who call Feyrithil home are bound together by an enduring sense of tranquility and purpose.

A Kingdom of Quiet Wonder

Feyrithil is not a realm of grandeur or excess but one of understated beauty and profound peace. Travelers who brave the cold are rewarded with sights that linger in the soul: frost-draped landscapes that glisten like jewels, villages warmed by the light of community, and the ever-present sense that here, amidst the snow and ice, life flourishes in harmony with nature’s quiet rhythm. It is a place where strength and serenity walk hand in hand, and where every breath carries the whisper of something timeless.

The Celestial Summit: The Divine Peak Where Mortal and Gods Meet

Rising above the known world in majestic splendor, the Celestial Summit is a towering, sacred peak that seems to bridge the gap between the heavens and the earth. The summit is renowned as the holiest of places, a realm where the gods are said to listen to the prayers of mortals carried on the winds, where celestial power intertwines with the mortal realm, creating a space of both awe and danger. At the summit’s core stands the ancient and colossal Tree of the Gods, its roots plunging deep into the mountain’s heart, and its branches reaching toward the sky as though attempting to grasp the very fabric of the divine. Surrounding this sacred tree are the remnants of an ancient civilization, a once-mighty people who built this peak as a monument to the gods they revered. The Celestial Summit is a place of untold potential, where time, fate, and divine will converge.

Architecture and Layout

The Celestial Summit is a vast and imposing landscape, dominated by natural wonders, divine craftsmanship, and ancient ruins that hint at a forgotten grandeur.

The Tree of the Gods: At the summit’s heart, the Tree of the Gods stands as the center of divine power. Its immense trunk towers into the sky, with roots that stretch far beneath the mountain. The tree's immense size and ethereal presence draw worshippers, pilgrims, and scholars alike, all seeking a glimpse of the divine energy that pulses within its branches and roots. The tree is said to be the physical manifestation of the divine connection between the mortal realm and the gods, its every leaf and root infused with celestial magic.
The Molten Veil: At the base of the Tree of the Gods lies the Molten Veil, a cavernous forge fueled by divine flames. The forge’s fires glow with supernatural intensity, and rivers of molten metal flow from the summit. Crafted by ancient hands and powered by celestial energy, the forge creates legendary weapons and artifacts of unimaginable power, but each strike of the hammer channels divine wrath, binding those who forge to the summit’s secrets.
The Twilight Nexus: Beneath the summit, the Twilight Nexus is a realm of shifting shadows where time and reality bend unpredictably. The landscape is a surreal mix of dim light and shadow, with glowing obsidian spires and fractured paths. Time moves erratically here, and those who enter risk being lost in its eternal limbo, caught between past, present, and future, while powerful entities guard its mysteries.

Ketharil: the Land of Shadows and Scars

Ketharil is a land of sorrow and mystery, where the echoes of ancient wars and the decay of time have left their mark. Once a thriving and fertile region, Ketharil is now a desolate stretch of jagged cliffs, cracked earth, and shattered forests. The land speaks of its bloody past, where conflict and darkness have scarred the very soul of the earth. It is a place where nature, war, and memory intertwine in haunting beauty.

Landscape and Layout

The Ruined Forests: These ancient, skeletal trees twist from the blackened soil like the twisted fingers of the earth, their trunks splintered by centuries of battle. Forgotten relics, half-buried in ash and soil, lie scattered throughout the ruined woods, remnants of a time long past.
The Ruins of Eldenhem: Ancient ruins and crumbling towers dot the land, a mere shattered, hollow memory of a Kingdom long ago fallen.
The Shadowfen Marshes: To the south, the marshes spread like an inescapable blight. The waters are slow-moving and dark, reflecting the twisted, decaying trees and roots that twist beneath the surface like ancient, grasping hands. A thick fog hovers perpetually over the landscape, obscuring both the land and the sky, while eerie will-o’-the-wisps flicker in the distance, leading travelers astray.
The Ravaged Cliffs and Riverbeds: Jagged cliffs rise from cracked earth, with deep, dry riverbeds that snake through the land, marking the paths of lost hopes and forgotten villages. The earth itself seems to weep, bearing the scars of wars fought long ago.

The Arcane Pulse

Magic is a constant presence in Ketharil, humming in the air like a distant whisper. The land’s connection to the arcane is deep, and its power is woven into the very fabric of its ruins and forests. There are pockets of potent magic scattered throughout Ketharil, remnants of forgotten civilizations that once thrived long before Malakar rose to power. The ruins pulse with an energy that can be felt by those attuned to the arcane, as if the land itself is waiting to reveal its long-buried secrets.

Culture and Mystique

Ketharil is a land of few brave inhabitants, where the people who call it home are often as elusive and mysterious as the land itself. Its people are wanderers, survivors of the land’s violent past, their lives shaped by the scars of conflict. They are a people steeped in ancient knowledge, their lives intertwined with the land's magic, and their history is written in the very stone and roots that make up their kingdom. These outlands are deeply rooted in the land’s history, carrying a lingering appreciation for the arcane and the forgotten. There is a reverence for the ancient civilizations that once called Ketharil home as well as a silent understanding that the land’s power comes with a price. While Ketharil may seem barren, it is alive with mysteries, offering rewards for the brave and peril for the unwary.

A Kingdom of Silent Stories

Ketharil’s beauty is both haunting and alluring, its landscape a tapestry of danger and mystery. The land’s ruins shift and change, reflecting the deep connection to its forgotten past. It is a place where time does not pass linear, where ancient powers stir beneath the surface, and where the shadows hold stories that have yet to be fully told. It is a land that invites exploration while demanding respect—for to walk its paths is to walk among its ghosts, its ancient curses, and come to an archaic solemn understanding.
